Wincanton Town Council – Locum Town Clerk

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a community minded and motivated individual, with relevant experience, to act as our Locum Town Clerk in this interesting and varied role supporting a highly ambitious town council.

Wincanton is a Market town situated in the south east corner of Somerset (close to the Wiltshire and Dorset borders). In addition to employing a Deputy Clerk, a Project and Development Officer, a Works and Maintenance Supervisor and two Works Operatives, the Council also has nine active members (with six further members to be elected in a by-election in May).

This is a temporary opportunity whilst recruitment of a substantive Town Clerk is taking place. Anyone acting as our Locum will be welcome to apply for future permanent opportunities.

We are seeking a Locum Town Clerk of the highest calibre to lead and develop our team, to work positively alongside elected members to help improve the town and to ensure that all key legal, financial and other governance requirements are met.

The successful applicant will ideally hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration or be able to demonstrate significant relevant experience in a similar role.

The Locum Town Clerk is needed to work approximately 30 hours per week, based at the Town Council’s office. Some evening work will be required to attend council and committee meetings. There may be scope to increase these hours in the future, by mutual agreement.

If you are interested in working with us, please contact the Chair of the Personnel Committee by email to l.ralph@wincantontowncouncil.gov.uk so we can arrange to talk about the role.
