Wincanton Town Council are seeking a new Town Clerk. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and proactive with excellent organisation, leadership and administrative skills. They will have the ability to develop staff and manage resources effectively and have a good knowledge of local government as well as an understanding of the issues facing the public sector.

The Town Clerk will work closely with the Responsible Finance Officer to support each other in these senior roles.

The Town Council has 6 committees. The Council owns and maintains the Town Hall, manages 2 recreation grounds, allotments and provides many other services in the town. It is an exciting time to be joining the Town Council as Wincanton is one of the many towns in Somerset that will benefit and grow from Somerset restructuring to become a ‘unitary authority’.

The successful candidate should hold the CiLCA qualification or work toward achieving the qualification. It is preferable that the candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing a vibrant organisation working productively with councillors and have a good working knowledge of current legislation affecting this sector. They must be able to form strong partnerships with the community and local authorities and be able to motivate and influence others.

Salary scale:

Hours 30 per week

SCP37-41 £40,876 to £44,863 (qualified) pro rata

To be negotiated if unqualified

The post holder will be entitled to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
