Town Clerk  - Part time 30 to 37 hours a week £32,910 to £39,880 pa (pro rata)
Assistant Clerk – Part time 15 hours a week £22,627 to £24,491 (pro rata)

Our present Clerk is retiring shortly and we are looking to appoint a new team to take the Council forward in what will be an exciting time for local government in Somerset as the new unitary principal authority comes into being in April 2023.

The Town Clerk will manage the day-to-day activities of the Council, which provides a range of valued local services to a community which has grown substantially in recent years and for administering the authority’s finances. They will also be responsible for arranging meetings and advising councillors on procedures and statutory requirements. In addition, they will play a key part in developing and delivering the Council’s strategic objectives.

The Assistant Clerk will maintain the council’s management and administrative systems including its various communication channels. They will also assist the Clerk and deputise for them as and when necessary.

The Council has a supportive approach to the needs of its staff, with flexible hours and homeworking being encouraged to promote a heathy work/life balance. Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme is also offered.

Experience of local government is desirable, but training and ongoing support will be available to candidates who can offer enthusiasm and commitment.
