Langport Town Council – Deputy Town Clerk

Langport is a vibrant market town on the banks of the River Parrett in the heart of the Somerset Levels. The Town Council have recently completed the River Project and Langport is now a destination for activities on and in the river, cycling and walking. This small town with many independent businesses serves as a hub for the wider community.


The Town Council is proactive and ambitious and comprises of 11 elected councillors. Together, we work hard to: provide services, facilities and opportunities that meet the needs of our residents; undertake projects that help to boost tourism and commerce in the town; and endeavour to improve the quality of life for all in Langport.


The Deputy Town Clerk post is newly created and there will be significant opportunities to develop the role within the town council. The post will be interesting and challenging in its variety and a flexible approach is essential. This varied hands-on role will involve you in all aspects of clerical and council work and involve working with and supporting the Town Clerk and Councillors.

The post is part-time 15 hours per week, to include attendance at some evening meetings.


Candidates will need to demonstrate a high level of administrative and IT skills and be able to work independently or as part of a team. The successful applicant will either hold or be willing to obtain the Certificate in Local Council Administration.
