Salary:  LC1 (Full Time Salary £19,312 – 24,491 (pro-rata part-time) depending on experience and qualifications (potential to progress to a more senior role)

Hours: Part time, flexible working hours (to include some evening and occasional weekend work)

Axbridge Town Council is small, but pro-active Town Council, working with the local community to provide services including allotments, a cemetery, recreation area, public conveniences and car parks.


Applications are invited for an Assistant Town Clerk.  The successful candidate will play a key role in the administration of the Council providing support for meetings and town council events. This is a busy and varied role, responding to enquiries from members of the public, working with contractors and updating the Town Council’s website with the integration of social media. Knowledge of cemetery and allotments administration, finance processes (currently using excel) and experience in minute taking would be an advantage.


The successful applicant will have, or be willing to work to obtain, the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CILCA). The ideal person will be sociable and affable; self-motivated and able to maintain good relationships with employees, council members, contractors and the public. A willingness to learn new skills would be welcome, as would an interest in the work of the council and the community.
